Retired pilot badge by Steinhauer & Lück, Lüdenscheid. Zinc construction with soldered-on set-up and eagle. Unmarked, this is a typical post-war Steinhauer & Lück example with the swastika. The badge remains in very good condition, with a faded finish on the wreath. Very good, crisp detailing. No repairs, no damage.
For a long time, the collectors community believed these badges were wartime, but it appears they were produced shortly after the war to supply GIs with souvenirs.
This is an interesting “gap filler” for an otherwise very expensive and very rare badge. It’s a beautiful and very uncommon piece!
