(Kubanschild für Mannschaften der Panzertruppe). Constructed of bronzed zinc metal, the obverse consisting of a shield bearing a stylized map of the Kuban region, topped by an inscription of “KUBAN” and a Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, in turn flanked by a date of “1943”, affixed with two side clips to a black wool liner (indicating Panzer issue), unmarked, the shield measuring 54.2 mm (w) x 61.4 mm (h), demonstrating minor loss of finish to the base metal with some fatigue of the underlay, in near excellent condition. The maker is unknown to this day.
It’s impossible to say when this black wool was added to the shield; it could have been a collector, as I see ZERO sewing marks in the wool. For this, the price I decided to sell it at reflects a possible tampered original Kuban Shield. It does display nicely, though.
